WHEREAS it is expedient to provide for the payment by certain classes of employers to their employees of compensation for injury by accident; it is hereby enacted as follows:— CHAPTER I PRELIMINARY Short title, extent and commencement. 1. (1) This Act may be called the Employee ’ s Compensation Act, 1923. (2 ) It extends to the whole of India . (3) It shall come into force on the first day of July, 1924. Definitions. 2. (1) In this Act, unless there
